미국 연방거래위원회(FTC)는 24일 정부·기업 사칭 규정(Rule on Impersonation of Government and Businesses)을 개정하거나 다른 조치를 취할지 검토 중이라며 대중 의견을 받는다고 밝혔다. 온라인 플랫폼의 광고 최적화 관행이 사칭 사기를 부추길 수 있다는 판단에서다. FTC는 연방 관보에 게재될 규칙제정 사전공고(ANPRM)에서 소셜미디어, 검색엔진 등 플랫폼이 제공하는 광고 최적화 도구가 온라인 광고를 이용한 기업·정부기관 사칭에 어느 정도 이용되는지 의견을 구했다. FTC에 따르면 2025년 접수된 사칭 사기 신고는 100만 건이 넘고 신고된 피해액은 약 35억 달러에 이르며, 피해를 본 소비자의 약 30%는 소셜미디어에서 처음 연락을 받았다고 답했다. 이번 공고를 관보에 제출하는 위원회 표결은 2대 0이었다.
