미 보건복지부(HHS) 산하 메디케어·메디케이드서비스센터(CMS)가 22일(현지시간) 연방 건강보험 마켓플레이스에서 승인받지 않은 가입 약 31만5천 건을 취소했다고 밝혔다. 취소된 가입은 76만 명 이상을 포함하며, 약 22억 달러의 정부 보조금이 환수될 것으로 예상된다고 CMS는 설명했다. CMS는 2026년 1월 이후 규정을 지키지 않은 에이전트·브로커 200명 넘게 자격 종료 통지를 보냈고, 올여름 사회보장번호(SSN) 등 핵심 정보 없이 2026년 신청서를 낸 에이전트·브로커에 종료 예고 통지 569건을 발송했다. 또 2026년 거래소 계약이 없는 에이전트·브로커의 2027 플랜연도 신규 등록을 임시 중단하는 잠정 최종규칙을 발표했다. 기존 에이전트·브로커는 Login.gov 또는 ID.me로 신원을 다시 확인해야 하고, 소비자 대신 신청이나 가입을 처리하려면 소비자의 전자 승인을 받아야 한다.
